3 tricks for healthier skin care

Whether you’re young or old or somewhere in between, it’s never too early to focus on skin care. Because our skin affects our entire appearance – when it’s blotchy, we look tired, when it’s lined, we look older and so on.

On the other hand, when our skin looks smooth, fresh and well-maintained, we look young and radiant! So what’s the secret to great skin care? Well, here are a few tricks to help you on your way.

Skin care trick 1: Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate

We say this 3 times because, when it comes to skin care, it’s the most important rule to remember! One big mistake we make when we fear a breakout is to avoid moisturizer altogether. We think it’ll just make our skin greasier. Well, it may sound counter-intuitive but dried-out skin actually leads to excess sebum being created. This clogs your pores and triggers those nasty spots that you were trying to avoid in the first place.

So moisturize daily and use a good night cream on a cleansed face before you go to sleep. Don’t forget to drink lots of water too and flush out those toxins! At least 2 liters a day are recommended so if you’re out and about, remember to bring a refillable bottle with you. Good for your skin care routine and the environment!

Skin care trick 2: Make use of caffeine

We’re not giving you an excuse to drink more coffee. Sorry. After all, what’s the use of drinking all that water if you’re just going to dehydrate yourself again, right?!

But while ingesting caffeine may lead to dreaded cellulite and other skin care nightmares, it can actually be your best friend when used topically. It’s true – using products with caffeine in them can actually smooth out wrinkles, reduce puffiness and give the appearance of sparkling, youthful skin.

It appears that caffeine is a boost for our body as well as our mind. So include it in your skin care kit!

Skin care trick 3: Get more sleep

This one isn’t rocket science, but it’s a skin care tip that’s often neglected. And no matter how many glasses of water you drink or how many great products you use…if you’re sleep-deprived, your skin will show it. Red, puffy eyes, dark circles, anyone? We’ve all been there.

Adults are recommended to have 7–9 hours of sleep per night. If you find it hard to settle down, try switching off electronic devices like TVs, laptops and phones before bedtime. Have a bath or read a book in the hour before you go to bed and wind down slowly. Hopefully this way, your mind will already be relaxed when it’s time to go to sleep; and you’ll wake up feeling refreshed, with the glowing skin to prove it!

So there you have it – 3 easy tricks for better skin care. Try them out and get ready to shine!
